- Established in 1982 as a downtown revitalization organization, Historic Baker City Inc.'s mission is to promote a healthy and prosperous downtown. Baker City put down roots during the gold rush of the 1860s. It flowered into the "Queen City of the Mines" during a second boom between 1890 and 1910. Incorporated in 1874, it became a cultural oasis in the Eastern Oregon frontier.
